Kreative Kids

I always catch myself daydreaming in class at least twice a day, just wondering how I
got here and how I decided on the major that I have chosen to presue. I begun to remember  that it all started back in fourth grade. I transferred schools and had to start my school life all over again. My only hobbies were video games, comic books, and cartoons. I enjoyed them all because they took my mind off school and kept me entertained. One day while in class, we had our first group project. I admit I was a little nervous because I was new to the class and I was placed in a group full of guys that had known each other for awhile. The assignment was to find something in common that everyone could relate to, we started throwing ideas out and we noticed we all liked graphics and animations. From that day on we became bestfriends.
A couple years later we begun to read more and our minds grew curious. We wanted to know everything about graphics arts and design. We finished our work early just to use the extra time to learn more about it. Once we found out the basics we decided to start our own company called "Cartoon Central". It's funny now that I think about it, as young as we were. It was amazing to see a group of young boys with the mind set of ambition and determination. we were not going to let anybody tell us that we couldn't make our dream come true.
By 7th grade, I realized how far we came with our company as well as our friendship. We all agreed on making a cominc book, we sold them in the library after school and in a week we made a hundred dollars. That's when I foumd the passion for graphic arts. Just knowing I could make a career and get paid for doing something I love. I moved to Huntsville, AL my freshmen year of highschool. Even though I moved away from my friends I never lost interest in graphic designing and now I can design almost anything. Websites, cartoons, party flyers, etc. The ony thing I haven't had a full understanding of is designing games, and that's one reason why I decided to attend Jacksoville State University and major in Graphic Arts and Design. Art is a way to express yourself however you want without any rules, theres no limitation.

  1. Dantrell, It's great that you have such a passion for something and were able to meet some people who shared that passion at such a young age. Many people don't discover their passion until later in life. I love comic books and graphic novels, as well. In fact, I'm teaching a class on graphic novels in the May term (if anyone is interested in taking it, let me know). I wish that you had given us more details about the comic book you created in 7th grade and I would like to have seen some of your designs in your post.

  2. Trell this is actually one of my favorite post out of the class members who actually participated. That is too cool how you say you guys made your own work. Is it perhaps a chance you have any leftovers of them?

  3. Wow! I can't believe you guys started a company that early in age. When I was that age my mind was on playing outside and things like that. I am very amazed by your story.

  4. You should really look into being the co-CEO of you guys' company that you started. You all could really make some money! You should have drew a picture and attatched it to your post that would have been great. :)

  5. What was your comic about? I remember when I was a kid we would start a new club or business or crime fighting team every other week. None of my friends had a very long attention span, we couldn't stay focused on one thing if we wanted to.
