History in the Making(Graphic Design)

While sitting on my laptop I always catch myself wondering how far graphic design has came, as well as pictures in general. Just think about it pictures may have first started back when cavemen were here. I just start thinking like what how could we go from drawings inside caves to now designing just about anything we want to on computers.   Ellen Mazur Thomson is the name of the man who first discovered graphic design. He stated " It has been thought that graphic design emerged as a profession only when European modernism arrived in America in the 1930s, yet shows that the practice of graphic design began much earlier. Shortly after the Civil War, when the mechanization of printing and reproduction technology transformed mass communication, new design practices emerged." Thomson investigates the development of these practices from 1870 to 1920. During these years was very exciting because no one really knew what graphic design was, so begun to question it. What did the designers do, and how did they learn to do it? What did they call themselves? How did they organize themselves and their work? So many people were curious about graphic designing because they never seen anything like it. They seen pictures before but never like this, pictures were now filled with even more life.
Technology has helped out a lot of graphic designers because without it we would't be able to or even thought about graphic designing. Now graphic designers have no limits they able to do just about anything they want from color reproduction, video games, posters, signs, and photo illustrations as well as applications in advertising, publication design, information graphics. Literature on computer technology as used in desktop publishing and computer graphics is also included.  Just knowing how far it as came get me excited to see what the future holds, I'm looking forward to it.
